The compound present perfect

Both the Spanish compound present perfect and the compound present perfect subjunctive resemble the English present perfect. The Spanish compound present perfect is used to refer to situations that begin in the past and continue until the moment of utterance. The compound present perfect differs from the preterit because the latter does not include the moment of utterance whereas the compound preterit perfect does. It is formed with he, has, ha, hemos, han (the present tense of the verb haber) + past participle of the verb that describes the action or state.

He nadado en esta piscina desde que era un niño.
